It's popular to begin the new year with self care goals: drink more water, eat nutritiously, work out. While I am trying to incorporate some of these into my days there is one thing I'm doing every night of 2020:
Wash my face.
Let me explain. I run two businesses which make my days full from about 6 am until 7:30-8:00 pm at least 4 days a week (and often more than that). Once I get done with my day I eat and then promptly fall asleep (I know...not great for digestion). And that means that I also often fall asleep without washing my face.
I know, I know. I should have gotten good at taking care of my skin AGES ago! But with my busy schedule that's often energetically demanding I've often cut corners when I didn't really want to just to get extra rest or sleep.
I was nudged at the end of 2019 to show up for myself once a day by doing a nightly routine of taking care of my skin in the new year. I almost always wash my face in the morning before I apply makeup but using so much energy during the day leads me to sit down or sleep before I take care of my skin.
But this year I'm washing my face every single day of 2020. That's 366 days (hello leap year!)! Today is day 13 and I've done it every single day so far.
The reason this is my only self care goal is because I believe that this one thing will be the catalyst for a lot of positive change. Keeping up this one habit will help me believe and know I can keep up other good habits I want from my life - things such as moving my body more, carving out more time for rest, and drinking LOTS of water.
I listened to most of the book The Power of Habit and the most important thing I gleaned from it is to change/begin one habit a time.
And this is my starting step/habit. I feel so good so far and I can't wait to see how I feel on day 366!
Do you have any self care goals this year? Something different? Or maybe something simple? Please let me know in the comments!
